Newfield
Situated between the Florida Turnpike and I-95 just south of the C-23 canal, Newfield is the most centrally located, large tract of land in Martin County. Portions of the property have been utilized for farming for the past 37 years but a majority of the land is still in a natural state, dotted with wetlands and untouched dry upland areas. The longtime property owners have decided to continue in the tradition of town building and want to create a new settlement that will build upon the Florida heritage of rural farming and railroad towns developed prior to the 1920’s. These settlements shared the common feature of a neighborhood center at a crossroads that functioned as the heart of the community with a network of walkable blocks and streets.
Newfield is designed to embrace the architectural traditions of Stuart and Martin County, especially Victorian Coastal, Craftsman Coastal, and Vernacular Wood Frame styles in the image of an Old Florida Town during the “railroad” era.
Recognizing the high quality natural landscape across much of the site, Newfield is committed to retaining two-thirds of the site as open space. Publicly accessible natural lands will be available for the enjoyment of residents and visitors of the new community as well as for those living in the surrounding areas. A network of equestrian, hiking and biking trails will provide access to the natural lands, connect the neighborhoods within the site and connect the surrounding communities to the site’s natural amenities.
